On Nvidia SASS and PTX, there exists a LOP3 function that takes three inputs, perform logical operations on them. The PTX version is documented.
PTX Example:
lop3.b32 d, a, b, c, immLut;
d is the destination operand. a, b, and c are the three input operands. immLut is a hex number specifying the value to
look up in the table. If you have lop3.b32 d, a, b, c, 0x80;
, it means you are doing and
operation on all three
of them. In other words, d = a & b & c
.
SASS example (SM_86):
LOP3.LUT R3, R0, R1, R2, immLut, !PT;
It is similar to PTX, except the last !PT
which doesn’t seem to do anything. It likely acts as a placeholder because
all SASS instructions seem to require a fixed number of operands (and length).
The way numbers like 0x80
is derived is using a truth table.

In the PTX documentation, it mentioned that A, B, and C was each represented with
some special value 0xf0

respectively. These values translated into binaries

, and 1010 1010
. If you were wondering how they
came into existence, look at the A, B, and C column of the truth table. The column
of A, reading from bottom to top, is exactly 1111 0000
